A soccer game without someone to sell pancakes and flip the sausages on the grill? A horticultural club without the chairman who organizes trips to austria and italy?
Everything hardly imaginable. But volunteers are needed for these and many other diverse activities. In recent years, the demands on volunteers have become increasingly high. Increasingly, politicians are imposing rules that are difficult for volunteers to implement.
The new general data protection regulation has recently caused a lot of excitement. "Volunteering has changed so much", says nora lehnerer. She is chairwoman of the mother and family meeting erlangen, herself a volunteer, and discussed on tuesday morning in the district administration office erlangen-hochstadt with representatives from politics. Herzogenaurach’s mayor, german hacker (SPD), also sees social changes as responsible for the fact that fewer and fewer people want to do voluntary work.
People had less time: work and a crude offer of leisure activities were among the causes. Hochstadt’s second mayor, gunter schulz (SPD), agreed with his colleagues: "it is no longer easy to find someone in responsible positions."
In order to do more for volunteers, the city of erlangen and the district are going down the same path in 2019. "Volunteers need our active support", district administrator alexander tritthart (CSU) states.
Around the association
"Qualify volunteers" the project is designed to support the volunteers in their daily work and to give them new input.
In workshops and seminars, the topics include board work, legal issues, volunteer management, press and public relations, and general topics to help them cope with the high demands of their work. However, the courses are basically intended for all interested parties and are held in cooperation with the adult education centers in hochstadt, herzogenaurach, erlangen and eckental.
Annual program is available
For volunteers, the courses that start from march are free of charge. The annual program is available in the folk high schools and can also be found on the internet websites.
In the first seminar "legally secure board membership – what an association needs to know malte jorg uffeln, mayor of steinau an der strabe, will explain risks and legal issues and provide information on association liability and association bylaws.
According to markus bassenhorst, head of the erlangen adult education center, the quality of the presentations is particularly important, so that all the voluntary tasks can also be mastered in the future.
